One of the items that awaited Robin when he got to his room was a letter he wrote to Marian after his first battle in the Crusades, which shook him badly. He had forgotten about the note, and meant to destroy it, but hasn't quite been able to.
And now, she's about to find it, so I had to write it. ;)
For those unfamiliar with the show's backstory, they were betrothed, but it ended when he left to follow the king; Em and I have decided that the breakup amounted to Marian being furious (to his face-- she would not let him see that she was hurt). And speaking of that, neither of them is very forthcoming about their feelings; at one point in-show, he thinks she's dead, laments that he never told her he loved her-- and then when he discovers she's alive, he still never says it, until midway through the NEXT season. *shakes head at him* And they've come here from well before he does. But, that's not to say that this is OOC, because he writes a very emotional letter to her in S2. Buuut okay, enough babbling... ;)

My beloved Marian,
I realize that I forfeited the right to address you in that manner, much less the right to address you at all, but I write to you a humbled man, begging your forgiveness. I know now that leaving was a mistake, the greatest mistake I could have made. Not only did I wrong you, but I did so for all the worst reasons.
There is no glory to be found here, no honour. If the king truly believes that, then he is a fool, and more fools the rest of us for following him, whether we were led here by honesty or by deception. The only things awaiting us here were sand and damnation, and I have had my fill of both.
It seems clear to me now that I will not be returning home. Whilst I did not expect to be welcomed back by you if I had, I admit that I hoped to make amends. With the possibility of that quickly diminishing, I ask only that you remember me well. Please do not think of the fool who set aside a chance at heaven by your side, only to find himself in Hell. Think instead of the fool who would say something absurd in the hopes of hearing the perfect sound of your laughter, who would try to make you smile because there is no sight more beautiful in this world, who loved you with everything he was.
Most of all, be happy. Live the life of joy that you deserve.
I do not expect that we shall meet again, as a much better place awaits you than me. But I will be eternally grateful for the time I had with you.
Yours now and always,
Robin.
